It’s the end of September, arguably the best time of the year, when the leaves crinkle and fall, the coffee starts taking on a cinnamon-y flavor, and the air turns that period between five p.m. and seven p.m. into a magical window of colors. But, it’s also a time when television shifts away from the summer spectacles and more into the familiar fare, the stuff that’ll keep us beaming from cozy, soft couches and from under warm wool blankets.

Already, we’re seeing the return of Larry David in HBO’s iconic series Curb Your Enthusiasm this weekend. That’s a pretty, pretty … pretty big one. Then there are those damn kids from Hawkins, Indiana on what will most likely be another nation-sweeping season of Netflix’s Stranger Things. And yes, there’s even another round with Sam Esmail’s insufferable Mr. Robot, a television event for the ages — straight from the mind of an auteur!

But then, we’ll also reunite with our favorite Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, take some more classes at Riverdale, and keep chowing down on Bob’s Burgers. That’s all without mentioning the new stuff, like David Fincher’s exciting new thriller for Netflix, Mindhunters, or Amazon’s adaptation of the popular podcast Lore, something that should help us keep hearing all those creepy crawlies that go bump in the night. Goddammit does this time of the year rule.

Looking back, though, September has been an enviable tip-off into the fall season, what with the bewildering ending of Twin Peaks, the emotional season premiere of Comedy Central’s sharpest narrative Broad City, and the push and pull of HBO’s outstanding new series from David Simon, The Deuce. Then you have the continued success of Halt and Catch Fire, Rick and Morty, Vice Principals, the list goes on and on and on…

Oh, what’d you say? Sorry, I was watching television.
