Fred Armisen and Bill Hader’s Talking Heads parody band just dropped a full album — listen

on October 13, 2016, 1:25pm

Fred Armisen and Bill Hader know a thing or two about really selling a joke. And they’ve carried that over to their mockumentary series Documentary Now!, releasing a full album for their Talking Heads parody band Test Pattern after they debuted their send-up of the classic Heads’ doc Stop Making Sense last night.

Much like Stop Making Sense birthed an album with the same name, Final Transmission shares a name with the duo’s parody of Johnathan Demme’s lauded concert film. It contains songs we’ve heard from the band before like “Art + Student” as well as some full versions of tracks featured in the episode.

Listen to the full album below and watch a clip from the episode.

Update: As The Playlist points out, Paul Thomas Anderson has a surprise cameo in the episode as the “director” of Final Transmission. PTA is credited as “Harrison Renzi.”

This isn’t the first time that Armisen and Hader have dropped a very real album from a very fake band. They released an EP from their soft-rock parody act Blue Jean Committee after that group’s Documentary Now! episode last year.
