Tom Ford is more than just a fashion icon who gets shout-outs from Jay Z; he’s also a sometimes-director who creates acclaimed works of cinema. His first feature was the Oscar-nominated 2009 film A Single Man, and now he’s finally returned with his follow-up, the dramatic thriller Nocturnal Animals.
In addition to directing, Ford wrote the script based on the 1993 novel Tony and Susan by Austin Wright. The story follows art gallery owner Susan Morrow (Amy Adams) as she receives a manuscript for her ex-husband’s (Jake Gyllenhall) new novel. The tome is a dark and violent thriller that she takes as a symbolic threat of revenge for a misdeed he suffered at her hands.
The trailer above does an excellent job of depicting the sort of tone and applaudable performances that led to the film nabbing the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Venice Film Festival without revealing too much of the plot itself. The movie also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Michael Shannon, Isla Fisher, and Armie Hammer.
The film is due in select theaters on November 18th. Get an early preview via the trailer above.
